What new labelling requirements apply to batteries from 2026?

From August 2026, expanded labelling requirements come into force that go well beyond the current CE mark and crossed-out waste bin. Batteries must henceforth carry information on capacity, chemical composition and durability data; additionally, a QR code is added that leads to a digital battery passport. This passport consolidates information on origin, composition and recycling capability in one place and makes batteries traceable across the entire supply chain. For importers, this means you should clarify early on with suppliers whether this information is available — because without complete data, the new labelling cannot be implemented in time.
