What specifically changes for UK exporters under the new GPSR?

The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) has applied across the EU since 13 December 2024 and replaces the previous Product Safety Directive. For British manufacturers, it tightens obligations chiefly around traceability and accessibility in the event of harm: for numerous product categories, you now must designate a person resident in the EU, over and above existing CE marking requirements. The regulation also requires clearer information about manufacturer and product on packaging or accompanying documentation, plus expanded reporting obligations for safety incidents. Whilst manufacturers already meeting CE marking requirements are not automatically fully compliant with GPSR, they are structurally on the right track.
