May providers show a counter-offer or discount on the cancellation page?
No, not any longer. For a long time it was unclear whether a friendly counter-offer on the confirmation page — such as a discount if the customer stays — was permitted. The Federal Court of Justice has answered that clearly in its ruling of 16 July 2026 (Ref. I ZR 200/25): the confirmation page must serve only the purpose of cancellation and contain no further offers, information or distractions. Providers who still confront their customers with discount codes or alternative tariffs on that page breach § 312k BGB and risk the same consequences as a missing button — from immediate termination to warnings. Anyone who last reviewed their cancellation process before 2026 should take a close look at it again at this point.
